Episode Transcript
[00:00:01] Speaker A: As you call that radio.
We're having a conversation with Vibrant Rebels, your new favorite festival band.
You may not have heard of them before and that's okay because they've never played a gig before, they've never released a song before and they've never done a podcast before.
But that's all changing tonight. They're going to do the podcast here.
We're going to play their first ever recordings live for the first ever time.
And they're also performing the first ever gig this Thursday at Leith archies alongside Tickle McNichol. Simmons is old featured in Mog and Shoggy Mongo. What a lineup. I would be there if I wasn't in the beautiful isle of Inverkiski.
Now let's get them on. Let's get them on. And we have. I think we've got. They are a 22.
A 22 legged skunk, funk soul ska, hip hop battalion.
And if you would just like to introduce yourselves first, your name and what you do in the band.
[00:01:18] Speaker B: All right, I'll go first. I'm Oz. I do rapping and a bit of singing and good bunch of the writing work as well.
Yeah. So, hello.
[00:01:30] Speaker C: I've Boyd and I play guitar.
I'll do a bit of writing with Oz and do some of the melodies and some chords and bits and bobs. And then Johnny's going to take like a full paragraph to explain all the instruments he's going to play.
[00:01:45] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:01:46] Speaker E: What's up? I'm Johnny. I play all the rest of the instruments and also some of the same instruments.
Yeah. I mean on this week I'm playing saxophone and guitar and harmonica and that's it. That's all right. That's only three.
[00:02:01] Speaker C: So there you go.
[00:02:03] Speaker A: Amazing. And who is not here?
[00:02:08] Speaker B: So like our.
[00:02:09] Speaker C: Oh, wow.
[00:02:09] Speaker B: Singer Sarah's not here.
Our, like the rest of our horn section, a Christian, Matt aren't here. Our key player Christie isn't here. Drummer Luke isn't here and her basis Murray isn't here either. So. Yeah, but that's. That's the sort of core of the gang.
[00:02:25] Speaker E: Oh, yeah, I'm so certain. Yeah, I'm so certain. We've missed people. Sparky as well.
[00:02:30] Speaker A: We've got an 11 piece band.
11 pieces. And how on earth. Like one of the reasons. One of the most difficult things with being in a band is getting everyone to turn up for rehearsals, which is why we. My last band didn't really rehearse that much. There's only five of us. Some. There was a couple other ones that Just turned up. You know, we'd have a bus, you know, you'd have some.
You know, Callum would turn up on the saxophone with an extra keys. Player would turn up from time to time. But it was very rare to get everyone in the same room. How are you getting that? What. What kind of witchcraft are you using?
[00:03:07] Speaker E: I don't think we have ever all shown up to the same practice.
[00:03:11] Speaker C: Right.
[00:03:12] Speaker D: That makes complete sense.
[00:03:13] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:03:17] Speaker A: Thursday. Thursday is the first time that everyone's going to be in the same room at the same time.
[00:03:23] Speaker E: I guess so.
[00:03:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:03:26] Speaker A: That's exciting. It'll be nice to meet the rest of your band.
[00:03:30] Speaker C: Yeah, it'll be good.
[00:03:32] Speaker E: We've all met and played in, like, bits and bobs, like most. Most us together, so. It'll be fine. I'll be fine.
[00:03:39] Speaker C: Do you know what it is?
[00:03:40] Speaker A: We're.
[00:03:41] Speaker C: We're trying to run it a little bit like a football team, where it's like, well, so and so's on the bench this week and then next week, if you can catch up with your training and figure out what's going on.
[00:03:50] Speaker A: A squad rotation system.
You need that?
[00:03:57] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:03:57] Speaker E: It makes it sound like if I don't play saxophone well enough, I'm getting put on the bench next.
[00:04:04] Speaker A: Do you know what?
[00:04:04] Speaker E: Sorry, Johnny, only harmonica this week.
[00:04:07] Speaker A: What I should do is. Is because these are so new because obviously usually when we're interviewing people, I mean, I think people will recognize you because obviously you had lots of incarnations in previous monikers and stuff like that. So people that might not. People might not know who you are. So I'm going to play a song straight away.
Just. I think it's the right thing to do, just so people get a flavor and. Have you got. Well, I'm. And I'm. I'm really honored to be the first channel to play your music because nobody's ever heard this before, ever.
What song should I play put to set off the. The start of the Vibrant Rebels era?
[00:04:47] Speaker B: You should play six string because it's like absolutely bananas. Like, yeah, this is us just all getting together.
[00:04:53] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:04:53] Speaker D: What's that about you, you know, like,
[00:04:56] Speaker B: the Devil Went down to Georgia.
Like, if you kind of reimagine that. But it's like a guitar and it's about a kid who, like, sees a guitar. The guitar is like the devil's guitar and it falls out of the kid's hand. Falls out of the devil's hands. Maybe the guy who. Devil sold his soul to the devil for it. Like a diet or something. And it Ends up in a guitar shop and this kid sees it and then he gets a job and he saves up. He buys it and then like, he forms a band. They go on tour and it's amazing. He's like multi talented and he's living a life. He comes back from the tour and the devil's waiting for him. And he's like, I want a guitar back or I want your soul. The kid's like, nah, mate, I'll play you for it. And then they have a big showdown and a fight.
[00:05:35] Speaker A: That's brilliant.
[00:05:37] Speaker D: Yeah, right.
[00:05:38] Speaker A: No more spoilers. Let's listen to the song. This is the first ever vibrant rebel song.
When you call that Radio 6 ring
[00:05:48] Speaker F: step right up, step right up. Gather round, gather round Send me your ears and your morning Let me regale you with a tail from the underworld yeah, let me tell you tail not nails. The one that was all on sale said anyone in play it well we'll be best for a laugh it was off the rails they'll go the guitar and start by a little shot some riders off of a little kid street kid walk by Steve get a little glimmer in his eyes one out of five to save the same for the guitar we start to play.
It's a day, one day for him all you got to do is meet me here tomorrow.
I tune up my guitar try to play along cause I'll be waiting for you with my six ring I know s back in the saddle with my favorite song cause I'll be waiting for you with my six.
Well, it's everyone's dream he couldn't believe his kid thought that he was someone to beat. You'll have to decree the next night to be forever showdown in history.
The voice.
Need a ton of gray Waiting for another day the devil come to play till you put him back in his bay cuz there ain't a hoping eye he was playing with it so he got plenty more time to wait yeah yeah, yeah I chewed up my guitar and try to play long cause I'll be waiting for you when my six ring I don't sound the sk I'm back in this catalog with my parents on Cuz I'll be waiting for you am I 6 Sam?
Ready with my favorite song I tune up my guitar you can try to play along But I'll be waiting for you.
Cause I'll be waiting for you am I6 ring? I don't Sam.
[00:10:50] Speaker A: Fantastic. How important is that dring at the end?
Amazing.
[00:11:02] Speaker D: Again.
[00:11:05] Speaker A: I don't know if you're old enough to remember when. Definitely. Maybe when. Do you know what I mean by Oasis came out. MTV played it four times in a row. So maybe we should stay that. Yeah.
Nah, we won't. We will only do that because it's an audio podcast as well. So for people that are tuned into the audio podcast, you have probably already missed it. If you're tuned in live. This Thursday, the debut gig, Vibrant Rebels. And what a lineup Jade Radley's put together. Shout outs to Jade Leith Archies.
You've got Tickle McNichol, absolute legend.
You've got Simmons's old feature in Mog the Mog.
And you've got Shuggy Mungo, who. Who actually supported Gyros or Farewell show with. Featuring Dougie for the Mickey Nines and Mark for the Gyro Babies. The other Mark for the Gyro Babies. So it's a bit. It's super. A super group. Are you. Would you consider yourselves a super.
[00:12:10] Speaker B: No, no, no, no, no.
[00:12:11] Speaker E: We've never been in any other bands.
[00:12:14] Speaker A: One is.
What's it like? Because obviously I know you from your hip hop material.
[00:12:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:12:20] Speaker A: You perform live. All of that stuff must be a completely different ball game. Playing with a 22 legged skunk funk soul battalion.
[00:12:30] Speaker B: It's been a bit overwhelming, like, but I think I'm taking to it all right. Like, it's actually like loads of fun.
I used to do a lot of my work on my own, so having that amount of energy and ideas to bounce off and we've got a really good bunch of people where it's just. Everything just seems really natural, the way the songs are coming together and when we meet up and practice and stuff, it's just like, oh, what about if we did this here? And then everyone's like, oh, yeah, that's a great idea. And then we do it instantly and it just kind of gels. That's like how all the songs have come together and stuff.
[00:13:07] Speaker A: Like, whose idea was it to have the dring at the end?
[00:13:10] Speaker B: Oh, that was Mario.
[00:13:13] Speaker E: I think the answer to any of your questions as to whose idea it was to do X or Y is mar is boy over there.
[00:13:21] Speaker A: So whose idea was it to the band Vibrant Rebels?
[00:13:26] Speaker E: Boyd.
[00:13:27] Speaker A: Yeah, actually
[00:13:30] Speaker C: was like.
Was a collaborative thing. We went around loads of like, kind of like crap metaphors and like oxymorons and stuff, because we kind of wanted it to reflect like the sort of yin and yang, like the rapping and the singing and the kind of different flavors we got. And we just went round and round and then we're like, oh, yeah, Vibrant Rebels. Like a bunch of crazy angry hippies like we already are.
[00:13:54] Speaker A: It's amazing and it feels like it's vibrant rebel weather because the Scottish weather is rebelling against the storm. The windy weather we're used to and we're getting. Now I'm a bit sunburned, you can probably see.
And the.
Then obviously it's vibrant. It feels vibrant out there. The. It's a bit edible. So the weather's going to be good for. Perfect for a wee. A wee deer in Leith. I've got some feedback. So there's people tuned in and Jigsaw Tiger says cracking tune. That will be a belter live.
Epimew says Vibrant Rebels. Definitely new to my ears. Well, it's new to everybody's ears because that is the exclusive first play that has never been aired anywhere else in the world. Gogo Bordello meets Bad Manners. Will you take that?
[00:14:41] Speaker B: Yeah, I'll take that.
[00:14:44] Speaker A: Rupert says, so good.
Stuart says that's a banger.
And potato potato Coffee, he says, would love to hear this live.
You can.
You can. Thursday, early 30s. It feels like he's in the perfect festival band. But he's Are starting his festival season just beginning. So have you got anything. Have he's managed to. To snaggle any festival slots? That's late in the game.
[00:15:13] Speaker B: Do you want to answer that boy, or will I take it?
[00:15:17] Speaker C: Well, we've got some stuff picking up, let's say, but we haven't officially announced them, so we're going to have to see how. See what happens.
[00:15:25] Speaker A: So that's a yes.
[00:15:26] Speaker D: Optimistic Optim.
[00:15:28] Speaker A: So it's optimistic. So it's not confirmed, but you're hoping to be. It's perfect festival music. So I'm sure next. Next summer will be the year of the Vibrant Rebels. If. If not this summer. But yeah, it sounds exactly the kind of thing you want to hear on a sunny day with a beer in the air.
Yeah, we got.
The other thing I was going to ask you about was the. What is your favorite festival? What is. You've obviously played festivals before or. And you have attended loads.
What would be your dream festival?
[00:16:02] Speaker B: Can we.
[00:16:03] Speaker E: Can we name festivals that don't exist anymore or.
[00:16:06] Speaker A: Of course, of course.
[00:16:08] Speaker B: I loved.
[00:16:08] Speaker E: I loved Wickerman Festival. Yeah, that was. That was amazing and yeah. So sad that it's. It's not. It's not a thing anymore.
[00:16:19] Speaker A: Is that.
[00:16:19] Speaker E: Is that. Cop out
[00:16:24] Speaker A: for the following festivals. Like I've got a. I've got a soft spot for audio ship still to this day.
There was. There was some really good vibes there. I hope. I hope it returns one day. There was rumors of the Wicker man returning one day but I get sick of waiting. So I just moved to an island that feels like Wicker man in the movie and then it feels like every day is Wicker man for me. Shout out to the the good people of Invis. I'm only joking.
[00:16:52] Speaker C: And what about you're going to build an effigy?
[00:16:56] Speaker A: You don't need to, man. It's effigies.
There's far more effigies than traffic lights and that's facts.
[00:17:03] Speaker E: When's that? When's the Inver Festival at?
[00:17:05] Speaker D: What's that?
[00:17:07] Speaker A: There's rumors. There is rumors I will keep. If you want to know when the Inverkiski festival is, then sign up to the Patreon.
Patreon.com/forward/call that radio because that is where the. The.
[00:17:20] Speaker B: The.
[00:17:21] Speaker A: The information is going to first just to try it out. We don't want to scare the Inverky with too many people at the same time.
[00:17:28] Speaker E: So that's where you get the first wave. First wave of tickets.
[00:17:31] Speaker D: Yeah, we're going to.
[00:17:32] Speaker A: Well, just. Just the only wave is going through Patreon just this summer just to try it.
[00:17:36] Speaker E: Patreon exclusive. Yeah.
[00:17:39] Speaker A: Make sure everybody's cool. Get the best people over here first.
[00:17:42] Speaker E: How do we get to him for kif? Is the zip line still running, is it?
[00:17:46] Speaker A: What? The zipline. Oh yeah, the zip line's still there. I've just.
The weather's not been suitable for it. But it's a good day to zipline.
But I'm a wee bit of sunburnt. I need to stay at the sun. I'm just. I'm just, you know, typical Scottishman complaining about the bad weather for six months and now I'm complaining that it's too hot to go outside for a walk so that I don't become mayor. Orange, you know, I'm. I feel a bit trumpy and orange. I don't know if the light. I've got some lights on here. I don't know if you can see.
[00:18:16] Speaker D: But my.
I'm alright.
[00:18:19] Speaker A: I've had two days with the sun but I. It should be a bit too hot, but I'll take it. I'll take it. I'm not gonna complain. I'm a wee bit gutted at the water. The winter water is gone. You need to run the tap for a few extra seconds.
[00:18:31] Speaker B: But oh, the winter water's gone. Yeah.
[00:18:35] Speaker A: But I'm lucky enough that I actually froze some winter water from. From last week and now I've sold it back to myself this week. So I'm having fresh winter water outside by the sea by the zipline by the effigies of Inverkiski So we're going. I think we should play another song because I really enjoyed that one. We've got another one lined up called Insomnia and it's an exclusive, world exclusive first play.
Who wants to give us an introduction to that?
[00:19:08] Speaker C: I guess I had like this instrumental kicking around for about. Well, not the whole thing, obviously, but like the chords kicking around for like 10 years plus. And yeah, this was the first song that me and James worked together on. And from about two lines into his verse, I was like, this is definitely the guy. We're gonna write awesome tunes. And it was like a really good, strong starting point for the band. We're all really excited to get on with this song.
[00:19:34] Speaker A: Amazing as a banger. I heard that just before I went on.
[00:19:50] Speaker F: This.
[00:19:57] Speaker A: Sleep it's not trying to cream up
[00:19:58] Speaker F: a thing that's going to change my life all the pain and strife Lows and highs Got to combine something that's somehow worth the pride about me My mind have gone too long to think I'm just this close to being too far Put my head up in the stars like it last too long Trying to make it play with the only hand I'm gone Pass me off I'm fast.
I don't want baby.
Every effort I put in season waste Now I'm all the day Spending the endless night Is the one I wanted to live I was a kid and the things I dreamed that I begin the things I did and I never gave up on everything that I want Then I took it to a place.
I'm a season Pick up.
You by my side.
Sleep I can't sleep.
I can't sleep there's too much on my mind I can't sleep so I stay up all night I can't sleep and I'm starting to find I can see my dreams in my own ey I can't sleep there's too much on my mind I can't sleep so I stay up all night can't sleep and I'm starting to find I can see my dreams in my open eyes and your head feels weary yeah I will come to you and I will guide you through like the candle burn for another one, baby and if I take all night I'll take it by Yourself.
[00:23:14] Speaker B: I
[00:23:18] Speaker F: can't.
[00:23:53] Speaker A: El another belter.
Insomnia from Vibrant Rebels. That was the first play and you can see it live this Thursday night. And Le arches with Tickle McNichol. Simmons is old Shuggy Mongo. What a lineup. Shout out to Jade for that one. How much are you looking forward to play seeing those other acts as well? What? That's a great way to start things.
[00:24:16] Speaker B: Oh, dude, honestly, I've not seen Tickle and like ages. Me and him used to do shows when we were like, young. Young and like, yeah, well up for seeing him. And I'm like, I've not seen Mar in a while either. Or Lewis like. And I used to record a lot of stuff for Lewis. So, like, yeah, we spent a good bunch of time together making music in the past. So, like, I'm well excited for the lineup, like. And obviously like Chuggy Mungo are like brand new. So, like, can I wait to be like, experience in that? It's going to be fire like all night. Like, if you're in Edinburgh on Thursday night, start your weekend early. Come see the show, man. It's going to be off the wall. Archers is going to know what hit it, I tell you.
[00:24:54] Speaker A: And I put the. I put the link in the comments here, but it's like if you go further up, when I clicked it earlier on, it says tickets selling fast.
[00:25:03] Speaker B: Yeah, wicked, Wicked.
[00:25:04] Speaker A: And it's reasonably priced as well. I believe it's reasonably priced, yeah.
[00:25:10] Speaker B: We're trying to keep it like, you know, I mean, just get everyone to come like, it's not a fortune. Also, the Leith Arches also has this burger band that's placed attached to it so you can get your scran there and like come see the show as well. It's got everhand. It's a wicked venue. So yeah, definitely come down if you're about.
[00:25:26] Speaker A: We played it, but it turned out to be our last. Edinburgh was there at the China Shop, Bill. It was brilliant. Had a great time there. Also, just some news for anyone. The so Called Spring is sold out. You call out radio and Seven Sisters are doing the so Called Spring with God, the Dunk and the Fear and Enfield. It is now sold out, so you cannot go there. So if you were planning on going there, go to Leith instead. Can I go?
Can I go?
It's gone. That. That chance has passed. So don't, don't miss out. Go to schedule. Skedaddle off the schedule and get your ticket for. For the debut. The debut show. If there's a. Obviously he's been quite Tight lipped about any further shows, but is there anybody who. If they could wave a magic wand, who would be. Who would be your. Who would you. Who would you like to support? Who do you think would be a good fit? Who would you like to play with over the summer?
[00:26:17] Speaker E: I wouldn't, I wouldn't change a thing. I feel like we got the perfect lineup for this Thursday.
[00:26:20] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean the next one. No, it's perfect.
Yeah.
[00:26:24] Speaker E: I'm kidding, I'm kidding.
[00:26:26] Speaker A: What you mean lineups? Absolutely banging. I. I love them all. I love everyone in the lineup equally.
[00:26:32] Speaker D: I'm saying just is that there's a few bands.
[00:26:37] Speaker A: Your first Glasgow gig. Who would. Who would be. Who would you like to play?
[00:26:41] Speaker C: Tom Maguire.
[00:26:42] Speaker E: Oh, yeah, yeah.
[00:26:46] Speaker A: That'd be mad Tom Maguire. And the Brussels would be crazy.
[00:26:49] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:26:50] Speaker D: And Bombs Gate play with them.
[00:26:52] Speaker B: Like I was at that gig that you're. You're last at the moment with the Gyros. Like, hey, those guys are really cool, man. Like, they seem keen for doing stuff too. So. Yeah, I think us on a lineup next to them, similar kind of energy and sound in that. Like. Yeah.
[00:27:05] Speaker A: China.
Outstanding.
And I, Tom McGuire in the Brussels. Superb. Good choice as well. Anyone else would like to add to the. The wish list, try to manifest these gigs?
[00:27:18] Speaker C: Yeah, I think we were looking at
[00:27:20] Speaker D: like a few people wish list.
[00:27:22] Speaker B: The better. Like I want to be at other good times. Having the. Having the fun and bringing the vibes. Matt. That's, that's the whole point of this thing is like. Yeah, we just want to get in about everything.
I think that's why we're kind of making a jump now instead of waiting till next year. It's like we gotta. Gotta get in about it. You know what I mean?
[00:27:39] Speaker A: So you gotta get in a bit. I think you've got to fucking. To get booked for a festival in July. You've got to apply in July these days.
[00:27:50] Speaker B: Over the past like at least six months we've been like kind of putting together music and working and we've been like desperate to kind of catch that boat of festivals. But I think at the point where we started, that was the point where like we should have been going in for bookings. But there's so much stuff that you got to put together. Yeah. It's not just writing and learning the songs. It's like all the promo stuff, the letters, the pressbacks, the bios, the photos, all the.
[00:28:14] Speaker D: You know what I mean?
[00:28:14] Speaker B: So. Yeah, but if there's any festivals that are watching this that like still need the stage slot filled, like, hollow. We'll come to it for sure, man.
Yeah, we'll come. Shut your stuff down.
[00:28:25] Speaker D: Easy peasy.
[00:28:27] Speaker A: We got some comments from the last tune. Rupert says, absolute perfect. Festival music's. There you go. Festival organizers, if you're watching.
[00:28:35] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:28:37] Speaker A: EP says yes. Excellent sound. That's a banger, says Stuart.
And cracking tune. That were better. Life saw a tiger.
So it's. It's going to happen. I mean, there is no reason.
Because I sang like festival.
It's hard to get a slot at festivals in general, but it helps if you make music that actually sounds like festival music. And there's no doubt it does.
[00:29:03] Speaker B: Thank you very much.
[00:29:04] Speaker A: And it's a dream team. And you suddenly seen. It's a super grip. I'd say it's a super grip.
I'd say it's a super group. And you've got a keyboard player and a trombone player that you just trying to track down with the help of a detective and a trail of.
[00:29:24] Speaker E: We've definitely. We've definitely recruited Christie on the keys. Yeah, we've got.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. She's. She's.
[00:29:33] Speaker C: She's on holiday for this gig, so that's why she's not going to be there, because she's away on holiday.
[00:29:38] Speaker A: First gig and getting a holiday. I did that once for a job, just like, got a job and said, your first day is such and such. Well, I'm actually in holiday.
[00:29:51] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:29:51] Speaker E: One year I started a job and I had tickets to Download, like the music festival. And I was like, they're like, oh, your induction's on Monday. And I'm like, you don't want me in.
[00:30:01] Speaker A: I thought, the festival finishes on Sunday.
Why can't you be here on Monday?
[00:30:06] Speaker E: Exactly.
[00:30:06] Speaker B: Why not?
[00:30:07] Speaker E: Easy, right, Easy.
[00:30:09] Speaker C: Show up for your interview wearing a bin bag.
[00:30:12] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:30:16] Speaker A: Have you ever seen the picture of me dressed in a bin bag with Mr. Motivator?
[00:30:22] Speaker B: Jamie, pull that up.
[00:30:24] Speaker A: Pull it up, Jamie. Let's see. Mr. Motivator.
Eden, you should find it.
[00:30:31] Speaker B: Mr. Motivator is a hero, man. He's still.
[00:30:33] Speaker D: Yeah, I.
[00:30:35] Speaker A: Hold on. This is a abs that I should not be even showing this.
[00:30:40] Speaker B: Oh, come on.
[00:30:42] Speaker E: Was that Eden 2015 or 2016 or whatever it was?
[00:30:45] Speaker A: Oh, my God. No, it was. Oh, yeah. It was a long time ago. I don't know.
[00:30:48] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, well, I remember.
[00:30:49] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:30:50] Speaker E: Mr. Motor was there when we were there and 2016, there was a problem.
[00:30:59] Speaker A: Mr. Motivated him. That's badly drawn boy.
And I can't. I'm keeping it for the novel. That I'm supposed to be trying to work on to explain why I've got a bin bag on and why badly drunk boys pissed off at me.
Yeah. I'm keeping after the novel. But yeah, the thing is there's nothing wrong with being the bin bag when it's raining.
[00:31:19] Speaker E: Absolutely Right.
[00:31:22] Speaker C: I wonder if we can get like really multicolored fancy bin bag.
[00:31:26] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:31:28] Speaker E: Vibrant Rebel Band branded bin bags.
[00:31:34] Speaker A: I don't know if you can see
[00:31:34] Speaker C: that for when you're feeling trashy.
[00:31:38] Speaker A: So like quiz. It's all right. It's all right for us. He can go. He can go to.
He can go. He's garden. I can't go to my garden because I've got a day, all this.
But you can see the Isle of Invercuske in there. I've turned the light off so you can really. But do you see the bright. The bright high vis in the background?
[00:31:56] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, yeah.
[00:31:59] Speaker A: That's festival.
Festival merch. That is available.
Gyro baby. High vis.
Buy a high vis for a band that no longer exists. Perfect for festivals.
[00:32:12] Speaker C: You know what's great for festivals?
Sorry?
Festival?
If you wear like murky trousers. They've got like all the pockets where zeps and everything. So if anyone out there is a builder and you go to a we festival, you'll never lose your skins or later
[00:32:32] Speaker A: and you might even get in for free.
You might even get a job.
[00:32:37] Speaker C: That too.
[00:32:38] Speaker A: You will. You will get put to work. You know, I mean they will find they tend to be understaffed.
[00:32:45] Speaker B: So you may get yourself put on R. And that.
[00:32:48] Speaker A: Well that. That's how. That's how we get gone to festivals was because we just turned up and played the campfires and stuff and then handed it some stickers and then talked to the sound engineers and said if someone drops it, we'll jump on. And that. That worked because the law of averages, somebody's going to drop it. So maybe that's what you should do is just sort. I mean you can't. It's hard to do within a 22 legged battalion. But maybe just a few of you, a stripped back version ready to go.
Acting keen, turning up at 9am every day and the sun is gonna be like, you know what? Just go on.
[00:33:28] Speaker E: It's not worth it, man.
[00:33:33] Speaker A: Well, I was gonna say here we got a full. We got a full 15 career, 15 year career out of that. Then I just thought was it worth it?
No, it wasn't worth it. It wasn't worth it. It was worth it. It was worth It.
[00:33:45] Speaker D: Of course it's worth it.
[00:33:46] Speaker A: It was worth it. My life has been worth it.
[00:33:48] Speaker E: Of course it is.
[00:33:49] Speaker D: Of course I think my life is worth it. I'm not 100. Sure.
[00:33:54] Speaker A: 20 off pizza for wearing the high vis. That's correct, says Tom.
Happy birthday. And I believe that we've got another thing to announce as well. Maybe, maybe secret animal garden party time. Would you book these guys?
[00:34:11] Speaker B: I will do it, man.
[00:34:12] Speaker A: Maybe, maybe, maybe the secret animal garden party would beat you. I think it's a timeshare. You may need put a shift. Yeah, you definitely. They're not going to let you walk about. You'll get in for free, but they'll be like crowd control. Could you fix that stage? Could you that. Can you fix the. The handless fence? What's it called?
The Harry's fence.
[00:34:34] Speaker B: Oh, no, I know the Harris fencer, man. Like, oh my.
[00:34:36] Speaker A: I did that job before at the end of the. In the Monday, taking it done and it turns into some psychedelic nightmare and you just. It just goes on and on and on. Did you notice how this. This. I've been balancing this microphone on a mic stand now for about six months and I'm sick of it.
Microphone's too heavy.
This piece of piss for Amazon.
[00:35:01] Speaker E: You see, like all the YouTubers nowadays, they just hold. They're just like holding these wee, like teeny tiny mics. They're just holding them like that in front of their face like it's a wee.
You should just do that, just get on board with it. Just like handheld action, action podcast.
[00:35:14] Speaker A: I hate it. I would, but I hate it. I'd rather just balance this.
I'm going to do. You know what? I'm going to get a new one. I can't. This is. This really pissed me off. And what's going to happen is it's a false economy.
This microphone is going to fall down and break and then we have to buy a new microphone anyway. So I'm going to treat myself to.
[00:35:37] Speaker C: Yeah, but then you wouldn't have anything to wrestle with and like take out your frustration on and go, why isn't this working?
[00:35:43] Speaker A: The demons. I can wrestle with my demons.
I'll be fine.
I'll find something else.
Trust me. I found that in life there's always something to moan about. And I've this thing as well. It's a really thin line because, see, I've started an audio podcast called Views from the Sea and I try and start it with some positivity and some gratitude and I just fucking sound like a Like, I'm boasting and like, oh, isn't life fucking great? And I hate that. And then I also hate to be the guy that moans because gratitude is good, but where's the fucking thin line between mourning about everything and praising everything and turning a toxic positivity? And you end up Russell Brand and just talking about, hello, my million awakening wonders.
[00:36:36] Speaker E: I mean, there's worse things he's done than that, people.
[00:36:41] Speaker A: That the worst bit is the way that he couldn't find the Bible version is like. No, the worst bit was the. The, you know, But it was good. I mean, for him. And it doesn't know.
Russell Brand spent two minutes trying to find a Bible verse that. That meant a lot to him, which.
It doesn't sound that much, but it's. It's funny. Watch it. Watch it. Because it's a complete liar being caught live.
[00:37:09] Speaker C: It definitely points out how long two minutes can feel.
[00:37:16] Speaker A: Yeah, it was shout outs to Piers Morgan for just being silent through it as well. I mean, I never thought I'd see the free show. Pierce Morgan, shout out to Piers Morgan, friend of the show.
[00:37:26] Speaker E: Oh, no, friend of the podcast.
[00:37:30] Speaker A: No, I hate him just as much. Just to clarify, but there's no way that I could have been silent that long for two minutes. I would have not. No, I would have to say something. I go, can you find your. Your versy worthy and your wee baby wibbly?
So Tom says you're booked. Okay, well, maybe we'll get that.
Looks like you might have a festival appearance in. In my secret location. We will.
[00:37:57] Speaker E: Boyd there can work, by the way. He's a. He's a cook by trade. And also you work as well fix stuff.
[00:38:07] Speaker C: No anymore. Now I'm in the diva artist camp. I didn't do any of the heavy stuff. I just play the guitar.
[00:38:13] Speaker D: I'll do it.
[00:38:14] Speaker B: It's on ground.
First and last one down. Dude, a builder stage.
[00:38:19] Speaker A: Yeah, well, we are building a stage. We're building a hang. I think there is a thing.
[00:38:24] Speaker D: But yeah, you.
[00:38:25] Speaker A: Without giving away too many details because it is a secret location, but you've actually been there before as a. As a solo artist. The secret animal garden party.
[00:38:33] Speaker D: All right. Oh, that party. Oh, yeah, we'll come do that, mate. That's such a good cause.
[00:38:37] Speaker C: Yeah, definitely.
[00:38:38] Speaker A: I think we are going to. We can say too much. Sign up to the Patreon if you want to know more about it.
Maggie Diaz in the house says, can't wait for the gig on Thursday night.
[00:38:47] Speaker D: Yes,
[00:38:50] Speaker A: I'm. I'm getting hyped for this and I'm
[00:38:52] Speaker D: not even going, mate, it's gonna be good, man. We've been cooking this up for months.
[00:38:57] Speaker B: And like, honestly, I think, like, it's. It's, you know, that kind of thing where it's like, together and you can all make something that none of you could ever done on your own. You know what I mean? It's like, it's that, you know, so it's the. Yeah, honestly, like, I can for. I can wholeheartedly promise you that it's gonna slap the walls off this joint. Like, so, yeah, if you're in Edinburgh on Thursday night, Les only place to be, like, please come see us. You will not regret it, I promise you.
[00:39:24] Speaker A: Jigsaw Tiger time. If you need some electronic acts, give me a shout. This is turning into. This is. This is how much people like day festivals. And it's like, wait, get your people Vibrant Rebels. Get your people to talk to Tom's people. Jigsaw Tiger, get your.
[00:39:42] Speaker E: We'll have the lawyers work out a contract or something.
[00:39:44] Speaker A: You know, it'll be, yeah, yeah, this. Yeah, we'll move on at the minute, but yeah, let's make it both. I think that both would be a great shout.
Tommy Gun says, greetings from Germany. What? One of you is.
[00:39:57] Speaker E: The drummer is not here.
[00:40:00] Speaker D: Sorry.
[00:40:02] Speaker A: Actually, typical fucking drummer. Sorry for swearing.
With a few drummers of my time, apart from Jenny Tingle. Shout outs to her. She actually, a rare find of a drummer who actually is sober, turns up and gives a shit.
[00:40:20] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:40:21] Speaker A: Yeah, it's hard to get.
[00:40:22] Speaker C: We've got one of those now.
[00:40:24] Speaker D: Yeah, we do.
[00:40:25] Speaker E: Our drummer is a wonderful professional, but the reason he's not here is that he does not use WhatsApp and we probably didn't ask him to do that.
[00:40:35] Speaker C: Hungry?
[00:40:37] Speaker E: Oh, there you go.
[00:40:38] Speaker A: He's a bit mysterious. A bit mysterious.
For example, I couldn't go to MOG because I've got about 10 phone numbers for him and he doesn't use social media. And I mentioned. And I just said on. On one of these shows, I said at the back signal went, does anyone know where mog's at? I've got a question for him. And then the next day, phone me. So there's work.
So Tommy says, for sake. So your drummer, who. Who is a drummer. And Tommy's wanting some drum. Some. I think Tommy, I have a feeling that Tommy may be a drummer in Germany. So can we get. Can we get some lore for your from your drummer who is. What's his influences?
[00:41:16] Speaker D: What's his style is very much.
[00:41:19] Speaker C: There's definitely some jazz in there.
[00:41:21] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
He's got like a million fills. He talks about his hands.
Cool Hand Luke, that's what we call him.
Or Lucky Luke.
[00:41:32] Speaker A: Talk to the hand.
[00:41:35] Speaker B: Like, he's. He's an absolutely incredible musician that, like, I can't. Like.
[00:41:39] Speaker E: Yeah, like, he just switches.
[00:41:41] Speaker D: We auditioned up from the get go.
[00:41:42] Speaker B: Like, he's unbelievable.
[00:41:43] Speaker E: Exactly.
[00:41:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:41:44] Speaker E: Like, we auditioned a few people and like.
Yeah, you just like, instantly, I'm sure. Like Voyager just like, okay. The song's kind of like this. We're kind of thinking this kind of vibe. And he's just instantly just like, yeah, I get you. This is it. And just smashes out something that is perfect. And it's like, okay, cool.
[00:42:04] Speaker A: And what was your additional process like? Because I remember. I think it was Libby. It was Libby. I think Libby messaged me about a year ago, maybe, saying that you were looking for an MC and that. How long ago would that have been?
[00:42:19] Speaker C: That was probably about a year ago.
[00:42:22] Speaker F: Yeah.
[00:42:22] Speaker E: I think, Boyd, you.
[00:42:23] Speaker A: You.
[00:42:23] Speaker E: You came at me with this idea, like, over a year ago now. Right.
Or maybe about that long. Right. And then we were trying to get.
[00:42:32] Speaker C: It was around. It was around my 30s because I was having a bit of a crisis about turning 30 and thinking, oh, I better start getting a band together.
[00:42:41] Speaker A: Oh, my God.
Fuck's sake.
But, yeah, you're over that now. The thing is that, see, to be honest, to change in decades, I don't care about my age, but decades. I didn't like 19 to 20.
And I don't think I'm going to like turning 30 either, to be honest.
[00:43:04] Speaker D: You know, honestly.
[00:43:06] Speaker E: Honestly, like, last for me, it was like, from 27 onwards, it was like, oh, no.
[00:43:12] Speaker D: Oh, no.
[00:43:13] Speaker E: And then, like, once you turn 30, it's like, oh, that's not bad.
[00:43:17] Speaker A: 31's fine. 31 being 30.
What? Mate, finish your sentences. Are you drunk? 30. What?
Because you've just been so used to saying 20. 21, 22, 23, 24, 25. I would imagine, obviously, I've. No, I've not hit those years yet. But, yeah, I'm sure I will. Age gracefully. Jigsaw Tiger wants to know if the. You were doing single releases or can we expect an album.
[00:43:47] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:43:49] Speaker B: Have a lot of material ready. And we're obviously, like, the music industry has changed a lot. Like, especially, like, since lockdown and the way that social media is progressing and stuff, like, and people's attention spans are dropping. It's raising questions about how we are going to drop stuff, but I think so there'll definitely be more than one. One release. Like in terms of like albums. We've got plenty of material to come.
So, yeah, just whether it's coming a song at a time or a whole project, like, there's plenty of music on the way and it's all top tier stuff, I promise you that.
[00:44:26] Speaker A: So you've got an album worth of stuff, but you just not even sure if you're going to release an album.
[00:44:31] Speaker E: I've got a double album worth of stuff.
[00:44:33] Speaker B: Right?
[00:44:33] Speaker A: Double album worth of stuff.
[00:44:34] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:34] Speaker C: At least we need to do a lot of recording in May and then maybe we can get everyone done. We're going to start smashing out a single every month for like the next year. Hopefully. That's the. That's the grand, grand plan. The crazy Hover Simpsons team.
[00:44:51] Speaker A: And when you've got two singles that sound great to Myers. Are they. Are they. Why you just drop one of them soon?
[00:44:58] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I think that's kind of part of the game plan. It's just about like getting the drop right. Like I was saying earlier, like, that kind of thing. You need all the pieces. Like, we have the banging songs but like if we just pop them on the Internet, it will just fizzle out. So we want to build the momentum, drop it properly, like actually professionally release the music. You know what I mean? So, yeah, content.
[00:45:20] Speaker D: Yeah, content.
[00:45:22] Speaker B: Your favorites.
[00:45:23] Speaker C: Your.
[00:45:24] Speaker A: This is a. These little. So this is what I, you know, we ended up doing with the album last time is. I think we made one real music video and then we. I just made loads of little bits.
Content. Can. We need. We need a better word for that.
Ah, can we just call it art?
[00:45:40] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:45:41] Speaker B: No, I was gonna say your stuff is really arty, like, you know. Yeah.
[00:45:44] Speaker A: Just like me walking towards the sea.
[00:45:47] Speaker B: No style to it. Like. I really love all your visual stuff that you do, like. It's brilliant.
[00:45:53] Speaker E: That's amazing.
[00:45:53] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:45:54] Speaker A: Thank you. Oh, thank you, thank you. It's understated, but.
[00:46:00] Speaker B: No, not at all, mate.
[00:46:02] Speaker A: The thing is. So it just feels like. See, if you just, you know, if you get used together and you just. You're promoting your single in an hour, he could just record, I don't know, five, 10 clips. There would just be 10 different clips. And it just feels like, are we witnessing the death, the music video, or is the music video going to make a. A resounding comeback? That's the question. Do you know, I had a thought the other day that I think I noticed that There was an AI musician, there was an AI Scottish rapper. But I'm even going to go into that because the guys backtracked and that. So I'm not going to. Let's not get that. And I want to leave that alone.
But it was like an AI singer, songwriter. It was a very pretty woman singing like an AI song. You could tell it was an AI song. And everybody's going, this is amazing. And it was quite obviously AI.
And I was thinking this is maybe a good opportunity to be average looking or less be old.
Maybe everything's gonna be okay because.
Because if you're going to look too good and sound too good people wise AI.
So maybe this is the year, maybe not this year. This is the year of AI, but maybe next year is the year of average looking musicians making reasonably well produced things. But a wee bit raw. What. You know what I'm talking about? A little bit raw.
[00:47:32] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, I think like, yeah, you
[00:47:35] Speaker B: go, you go, Johnny, you go. Yeah.
[00:47:37] Speaker E: It's like, it's total, right? It's like, you know, there's lots of artists that you like where their first album is. Like, obviously just them and their mates home recording stuff, recording it in a garage, whatever. And you just know that like they were cooking on it for so long and it's always great. And I love that whole vibe and it's really like, I don't know, it's kind of sad. Oh, me going on a bit. It's kind of sad how like modern pop music, just modern music in general all just has to be so perfect and clean and crisp. But it's like you kind of just want like the vibes, you know, like they were just sat on the sofa recording this or whatever.
But I don't think I'm the target market of this new AI Fish.
[00:48:15] Speaker B: So I don't think a lot. I think a lot of people are fed up with it already. Like, I think a lot of people are looking for that resurgence of like real music, you know? Yeah, like that. That's the one thing I really love about this is like, I mean that first song that we played, like, that's us playing it live. That's no like digital additions or anything. All those instruments you hear are real.
[00:48:37] Speaker D: They're in the room.
[00:48:38] Speaker B: It's real people playing them. Like it's something that the AI can't match. Do you know what I mean? You stick a laptop on a stage, like, it's not gonna kill your show.
[00:48:47] Speaker A: AI will never.
AI won't be able to.
[00:48:51] Speaker C: So AI steals us Man, I spent
[00:48:55] Speaker E: such a long time.
[00:48:56] Speaker B: Brain trips killed the hologram star. The incident killed everyone and restarted society.
[00:49:02] Speaker E: I spent so long thinking that AI would never be able to take my job. And then here I am right at
[00:49:08] Speaker D: the cusp of, you know, AI do
[00:49:11] Speaker B: a three day bender.
[00:49:12] Speaker D: A festival.
[00:49:13] Speaker A: Well, AI is right now advertising to me to take my own job and I'll explain that. What it's saying is, is that all I need to do is upload a few hours of me talking of my previous shows and then I can just write a script and then AI will create me doing the script.
And I'm like, what's the, what's the point in that? Because I could just do it. If I've wrote it, I could just do it rather than. And then it says. Then they say I. But it's okay because AI can then write the script for you as well.
[00:49:44] Speaker E: Just do the whole thing, training it
[00:49:45] Speaker B: to do all the wrong jobs, man. Like, when's it. Where's the AI that's going to do my dishes and my washing and that and like clean.
[00:49:51] Speaker A: Exactly. This was. We were promised.
[00:49:53] Speaker E: I mean, I guess we do have like dishwashers and washing machines.
[00:49:56] Speaker B: No, but it's still what a day to things, man.
[00:49:58] Speaker A: Like, where's the evil robot that stacks the dish?
[00:50:03] Speaker E: Right, right, right here.
Do you really want one of the Musk's robots or whatever? And you're like a physical, you know, like, oh, hey, this is the meta bot or the Xbot or whatever in your house.
It's there to do dishes, right? Just the dishes. Nothing else is totally not going to do anything nefarious to you while you're asleep or you know, like spy on
[00:50:34] Speaker D: you or break up the place or any.
[00:50:36] Speaker A: Have you seen this happening? Hold on, let's see if I can find it.
Okay, let's see. I know that I can't do this too long because people, people will be listening to this as an audio podcast. So I can't do this for too long. I don't even know if it's copyright as well. So I need to be careful here. But I watched, I've been watching. I went of watching them and they're falling a bit all over the place, right?
[00:51:00] Speaker D: Oh crap.
[00:51:01] Speaker A: But this is just funny ones. There was one, they put imagine that in the kitchen, but imagine that. And I've only got a wee kitchen. Can I have that?
Can I have that?
I just, I just want you to do the dishes, you know, I mean there's just. They're just going to Fall a bit.
See, these are just like funny ones. Like, oh no, it failed playing football. No, this is them trying to humanize
[00:51:24] Speaker E: the robots. They're. They're keeping lists, man. They're going to know you watched that video when it's time for the robot uprising. They're going to round up the people that were laughing at them falling over.
[00:51:39] Speaker A: Well, I don't think that they've figured out the Inverkiski accent. Yeah. So that's good. So I don't think anyone really knows what then Inverthkans are saying, myself included. So I think we're. I think we're last to fall. I think we're last to fall. I think.
I think.
Well, we just. I just don't think there's that many robots here. I mean there's not even really wi fi. That's. Do you know what I mean? I think it's a wee bit.
[00:52:04] Speaker E: That's what the Invrakivki Burning man can be. It can be. It's like a robot effigy. It's like we're. We're paying tribute. We're paying tribute to the robots or burning. Or burning the robots that can't get to Inverkivki. There you go. Right.
[00:52:18] Speaker B: We should all get Super Soakers and just wet them up. Okay.
World War 3 will be fought against the robot uprising with Super Soakers.
[00:52:30] Speaker C: Robot 22 legged skunk funk ripoff band where it's like an AI version us called
[00:52:40] Speaker A: cannot drink. Can it drink. See that's. That's why you know it's real because it's got a dring at the end for no reason.
[00:52:47] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:52:47] Speaker A: And that's.
[00:52:48] Speaker D: Should we try like AI can't do that.
[00:52:51] Speaker E: See if AI can do it. We just describe the band to Suno and describe the song and see if the problem.
[00:52:56] Speaker A: This is the thing as well. They're also. The SUNO is targeting people saying, have you ever written lyrics? Would you like to hear it in a song? So what it's trying to do is get people to upload their lyrics and then the beat makers are uploading their beats and they're just selling it to both people.
And.
[00:53:16] Speaker E: Yeah, I suppose that's like a mild improvement on just. They stole all of it to train it in the first place though.
[00:53:24] Speaker B: But now they're selling it back to you.
[00:53:26] Speaker A: Yeah, they're selling it back to you. It's like you're a beat maker stuff. You're a bit maker.
Let's bring back human stealing people's Ideas again.
[00:53:34] Speaker E: Let's I'm to good oldfashioned plagiarism.

[00:56:14] Speaker E: Yeah. It's like, you get, like, content derogatory and content positive.
[00:56:19] Speaker A: I know, but digital art still sounds like it's a wee bit. It's a wee bit much when the. Literally, the vid sort of wistfully looking at the sea with no lyrics.
[00:56:28] Speaker E: It's a vibe.
[00:56:29] Speaker A: It's a vibe. Okay. It's digital vibe.

And maybe festival reveals, but, like, we kind of want to keep, like, the focus to one show at a time. So, like, right now, all efforts.

The only show in town.
[00:58:06] Speaker C: Never know.
